Ovidio Farias, Jr.

September 27, 1940 — November 28, 2025

Ovidio Farias Jr., 85, of San Benito, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 28, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born September 27, 1940, in San Benito, Texas to Ovidio Farias Sr. and Guadalupe Rodriguez Farias.

Ovidio began his career as a butcher for a small grocery store in Harlingen, Texas. Later, he joined Lucky Stores after moving to California with his family. It was there he rose through the ranks and was later tapped to lead Lucky Store’s expansion into Texas with their launch of newly branded Eagle Stores. While at San Benito High School, he was an active participant in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and continued his participation later in his career by bidding/purchasing at the North Houston area school districts FFA livestock shows, on behalf of Eagle Stores. He retired as the Regional Meat Sales Director & Buyer of Eagle Stores Texas.

Prior to starting his career, he met the love of his life Elisa at San Benito High School where they attended Senior Prom in 1958. They married later that summer and enjoyed 67 wonderful years together! Ovidio & Elisa are that rare couple you see sweetly holding hands wherever they go.

Ovidio’s favorite pastimes were traveling, antiquing, hunting, fishing, and tending his garden. He especially loved growing and harvesting his favorite chili peppers to make the most flavorful salsa. He treasured grilling for the family weekend get togethers. Cruising the Caribbean with Elisa was his preferred travel destination where they enjoyed fine dining, dancing, and exploring each port.

He dearly loved the Texas Hill Country where Ovidio & Elisa lived for many years surrounded by beautiful Lake LBJ. Every evening, he and Elisa would feed the multitude of deer that would visit their backyard. Treasured memories were made with the grandkids feeding the deer, swimming in the pool, sleeping in the air-conditioned tree house he built just for them, spending time on the lake on the Sea Doo and quite noisily cruising the neighborhood on his four-wheeler.

He greatly enjoyed his grandkids’ plays, band performances, football games, soccer tournaments, dance recitals, baseball games and cheerleading events. Living in Fort Worth since 2014, he was a big fan of TCU, where two of his granddaughters graduated, and proudly wore his camo TCU ballcap wherever he went.

Ovidio was preceded in death by his parents Ovidio and Guadalupe Farias, his sisters Noemi Chapa and Marisela Chapa.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife Elisa Farias; his sister Berta Chapa; his daughter Celia and husband Robert and daughters Alexandra and Laurel; his son Ovidio and his wife Terri and daughter Emily and her children (great grandchildren) Kaleb, Aiden and Devin; his daughter Lisa and husband David and sons Kyle and Matthew and daughter Kimberly.

The Farias family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m., at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
