Paul Edwin Groman

Paul Edwin Groman, 87 of San Benito, Texas entered into rest on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at his daughter’s home in San Benito. He was born on December 2, 1935 in Tiffin, Ohio, son of Albert and Dorothy (Hollopeter) Groman who precede him in death. He was married to Elena Groman (Garza).

He graduated from Elim Bible Institute and was a pastor in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1967, he established the Latin Home Missionary Association and dedicated his life to ministry to the people in Mexico along the Rio Grande border. He and his wife, Helen, served the poor in Mexico and Texas through clothing distribution, evangelism with his film ministry, financial support of struggling churches, and his radio ministry Day of Decision. He never retired but continued portions of his ministry until his death. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Tiffin, Ohio and was a member of the United Methodist Evangelists.

He had a joyful personality and always had a joke to tell or some news event to share. He loved talking on the phone to his daughters and grandkids and would call multiple times a day.

Paul enjoyed listening to hymns and older contemporary Christian music, spending time with his family, looking up old songs and TV shows on YouTube, and most importantly, loving the Lord with all his heart.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elena “Helen” Groman (Garza); daughters, Carolyn Burks (Steve Burks) and Rachel Groman; grandchildren, Noah and Selah Burks.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the World Missionary Press (www.wmpress.org) or to Latin Home Mission, P.O. Box 1972, San Benito, TX. 78586, in his name.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A Homegoing Service will take place Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Hondo City Cemetery.
