Paulita F. Perez

Paulita F. Perez, 91 peacefully passed away on June 6, 2023 in Rio Hondo, Texas.  She was born to the late Juan Flores and Rafaela Martinez Flores on March 2, 1932 in Rio Hondo, Texas.

Paulita was a migrant laborer, very independent and the hardest working woman that instilled those values in her children.

“Our Queen Bee” enjoyed smoking, sewing, gardening, cooking, spending her days with her family, hosting Chalupa night, tending to her livestock and then reaping the rewards of savory tamales at Christmas time.  She also enjoyed “secretly” handing over folded-up dollar bills to her grandchildren when they would visit.  Nobody left her house without having enjoyed a bean empanada with iced tea, a blessing or una buena regañada.  She was a firecracker with a spicy attitude and had a vocabulary full of inappropriate words.

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, son Felipe Gonzalez, and daughter Rafaela Gallegos.

Left to treasure Paulita’s memory are her children Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez (Judy), Juan Gonzalez (Norma), Maria Luisa Gonzalez, Juanita Gonzalez (Julian), Diana Hernandez (Jose Alonso), Felix Perez (Olga), Oralia Salinas (Eddie), and Guadalupe Gonzalez (Margarita); 43 grandchildren; 90 great grandchildren; and 28 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her son-in-law David Gallegos and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family wishes to thank Acara Hospice, Anna Ramirez RN, Olivia LVN, Patricia Gonzalez, Sarai Garcia and Oralia Salinas.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Sunday evening.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 12, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo.  Interment will follow at Las Yescas Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Felipe Gonzalez Jr., Wally Gonzalez, Juan J. Gonzalez Jr., Robert Barrientes, John Edward Salinas, Freddy Torres Jr., Rogelio Perez, and David Gallegos Jr.  Honorary Pallbearers: Juan Jose Gonzalez, Felix Perez Jr. and Guadalupe Gonzalez.
