Richard Cervantes

Richard Cervantes passed away suddenly on Friday January 14, 2022. He was born on October 29, 1975 to the late Luz A. Cervantes and Beatrice L. Cervantes. Richard was a valued employee of ACT Advance Call Center Technologies in Harlingen.

As a young boy, Richard always made people laugh. As a teenager and adult, he enjoyed cooking amazingly delicious briskets and baking his famous cheesecakes that all loved. He always enjoyed being a DJ at parties with his friends; many knew him as DJ GMP.

He was a selfless person and always put others before himself. He was loved by so many and will be missed dearly.

Richard is preceded in death by his father Luz A. Cervantes; his paternal grandmother, Victoria Cervantes; his paternal grandfather, Luz Cervantes; his maternal grandmother, Eulalia Lino; and maternal grandfather, Manuel Lino, Sr.

Left to treasure Richard’s memory is his loving mother, Beatrice L. Cervantes; older sister, Cynthia (Jose Luis) Diaz; little sister, Valerie Cervantes (Oscar Garcia III); his nieces and nephews, Danielle (Rene) Cantu, Jose Luis Diaz, Ana Christina Diaz, Alexander Garcia and Victoria Garcia; his great-niece and nephew, Sebastian and Carolina Cantu. Richard is also survived by his beloved second family, the Longorias, Ochoas, and Ceguras.

The Cervantes family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Friday at 6:30 p.m. (Click the link below "Recitation of the Holy Rosary" to view the service via live-stream.) Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, the Rev. Fr. Joe Villalón, Celebrant. Following the Mass, Richard will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jose Luis Diaz, Jose Alcario Lino III, Francisco Ochoa, Juan “Johnny” Ochoa, Frank Sanchez, and Edward Garza. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jose Luis Diaz, Alexander Garcia, Oscar Garcia III, Danielle Cantu, Ana Christina Diaz, Victoria Garcia, and Erica Garcia.
