Santiago Armando Villareal, 76, passed away on March 6, 2026, at his residence. He was born February 26, 1950, in San Benito, Texas to Francisco Villarreal and Margarita M. Villarreal.
Santiago was employed with Sears and retired after 19 ½ years of service. He was of the Catholic faith. Santiago enjoyed watching football, fishing, barbecuing, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Margarita Villarreal; his brothers, Reynaldo Villarreal, Lupe Villarreal, Domingo Villarreal, Horacio Villarreal, Jose Luis Villarreal; and his sisters, Elena Dominguez and Rosa Ramirez.
Santiago is survived by his wife, Emma A. Villarreal; his children, Cynthia Villarreal, Tanya Villarreal, Missy Villarreal, Amanda A. Villarreal; granddaughters, Briauna Michelle Perez, Alexaundria Danielle Perez, Sharlize Eryn Perez, Emma Nykole Villarreal, and grandson, Jayce Armando Villarreal. He is also survived by his brothers, Samuel Villarreal (Maria Elena), Efrain Villarreal (Virginia) and his sisters, Olivia Sanchez and Maria Mercado (Octaviano Jr.).
The family would like to express their gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, Amanda Mayorga, Magda Zavala, Armando Lopez, and Jorge Zayas for their care.
The Villarreal family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen. Santiago will be laid to rest with full military honors on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jose Dominguez, Felipe Dominguez, Efrain Villarreal Jr., Ismael Villarreal, Israel Villarreal, Javier Villarreal, Manuel Villarreal, and Jose Angel Villarreal. Honorary pallbearers are Briauna Michelle Perez, Alexaundria Danielle Perez, Sharlize Eryn Perez, Emma Nykole Villarreal, and Jayce Armando Villarreal.
