Santos M. Barrientos

Santos M. Barrientos Sr., age 94, of San Benito, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026. Born on March 28, 1932, in San Benito, he was the son of Juan Barrientos and Luz Moreno Barrientos.

Mr. Barrientos dedicated his career to welding at Marathon Letourneau until his retirement. He was a devoted member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito and held a deep affection for pets.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Luz Barrientos and seven siblings.  Santos is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia Sierra Barrientos; his children, Mary De Leon (Arnoldo), Leticia Whitaker (Bob—deceased), Santos Barrientos Jr. (Rosie Lugo), and Cecilia Espinoza (Juan); grandchildren Melissa Rivas, Melba Ovalle, Johnny Espinoza Jr., Jodi Espinoza, Randy Cruz, and Alejandra Barrientos; great-grandchildren Aaron Ovalle, Adam Ovalle, Audrey Ovalle, Jayden Ramirez, and Olivia Espinoza; as well as many friends who cherished him.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to hospice nurse Alex Cabrera, Dr. Shridhar Kotta, Sylvia Hinojosa, and the staff of New Age Hospice for their compassionate care.

The Barrientos family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Benedict Catholic Church, followed by interment at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rolando Ovalle, Joey Rivas, Randy Cruz, Johnny Espinoza Jr., Aaron Ovalle, and Adam Ovalle. Honorary pallbearers will be Jodi Espinoza, Audrey Ovalle, and Alejandra Barrientos.
