Sherri A Wilson

Oct 22, 1955 — May 20, 2026

Sheryll Ann Maples Wilson, affectionately known as Sherri to most, entered into her eternal rest on May 20, 2026.

Sherri was born October 22, 1955, to Colonel William “Bill” Maples and Georgana Brittain Maples Martin in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Her life as a daughter of an Army Colonel was full of excitement and faraway places.

When her parents settled in the quaint town of Rio Hondo, Texas, Sherri was home. This is where she met the love of her life, William Blaine Wilson. The two were wed on December 12, 1976, and soon after welcomed their two precious children, Jeffery Blaine Wilson and Lacy Ann Wilson.

Sherri’s loving personality and caring of people continued into her professional carrier in the medical field. She completed her LVN nursing license at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX in 1992. While working fulltime as a LVN she further extended her education by completing her Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from Excelsion College.

Most of Sherri’s nursing career was spent caring for babies in the neonatal intensive care unit at VBMC where she touched countless lives. She retired in 2024 after 25 years of service to VBMC.

She was a devoted wife and mother both to her natural born children and numerous others she loved on through the years.

Sherri is survived by her husband, Blaine; children, Jeff and Lacy; and granddaughter, Chloe Elizabeth Blair; siblings Theresa Linney, Geraldine “Gig” Haynes, William “Skip” Maples, Col. Austin Maples and Col. Cameron Maples, along with many other family members and dear friends she loved as family.

The Wilson family will receive friends and family on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Following the service Sherri will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sherri’s memory to The Bridge Church, 400 Bristol Ave, Rio Hondo, Texas 78583 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.

While those that loved her are missing her physical presence, there is peace knowing that they all have her watching over them, showering them with the same love that she always so freely gave.
