Sterling Gray

Sterling Gray, 83, passed away August 25, 2023 at his residence in Harlingen. He was born February 23, 1940 in Harlingen, Texas.

A lifelong farmer, Sterling spent many long days working in the fields of cotton, sorghum, and sugarcane. Together with his brother Jim, Sterling farmed for over 50 years. He was a supporter and member of the National Rifle Association. Although Sterling loved to farm, his real love was hunting. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he would never pass up an opportunity to head to Colorado to go hunting or anywhere to go fishing.  As much as Sterling enjoyed spending time outdoors, he loved spending time with his grandkids & especially his great grandkids. Sterling has been married to the love of his life, Iva Jo Gray, for 64 years. Known as “Dado”, Sterling will be dearly missed by all.

Sterling was preceded in death by his father, Oscar B. (Buster) Gray; mother, Eva Gray; brother, Jimmie A. Gray.

Sterling is survived by wife, Iva Jo Gray of Harlingen; daughter, Kimberly Lynn Gray of Harlingen; son, Sterling Michael Gray (Robin) of San Benito; grandson, Dusty Mathis (Erica); grandson Connor Sterling Gray; granddaughter, Krystina Ginther (Carlos); granddaughter Megan Kaftira (Altin); great grandsons, Sterling and Barrett; great granddaughters, Kaelyn, Keylee, Novah and Brynn.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful women who helped take care of Sterling, Tonya Peables, Linda Garcia and Betty Jimenez.

Sterling’s family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Harlingen-Combes Cemetery in Combes.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
