Thomas “Tom” Joe Brasfield

February 21, 1939 — October 10, 2023

On October 10, 2023, Thomas Joe Brasfield “Tom”, age 84, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Elizabeth at his side.  Early that morning, the clouds lifted and ushered him to heaven.

Tom, the eldest of four children was born on February 21, 1939 to William and Marian Brasfield in Kansas City, Missouri.  His brothers are David “Corky” Brasfield (deceased), Michael Brasfield of Arizona and Scott Brasfield of California.  These young men grew up in Missouri and spent a great deal of time at the lake of the Ozarks.

While serving in the Army reserve, he became interested in the printing world and worked at the Independence Examiner.  There he soon rose to the position of General Manager. Tom also held the General Manager position at the newspapers in Natchez, Mississippi.  He respectfully earned the nickname “Travelin’ Man” as he successfully managed his territories.

After a few visits to South Texas while avoiding the northern winter months, Tom met his loving wife Elizabeth.  Tom and Elizabeth married in 2020 and resided in San Benito, Texas.  Their relationship has been full of love and enjoyment of life.  Elizabeth will hold dear memories of their travels, companionship, Tom’s sense of humor, and willingness to “step out of his norm” in tasting new food and his consideration and patience. His canine companion Roxie was dear to him.  She never left his side. Roxie will now remain in the loving hands of Elizabeth.

Tom is survived by his four children, Debbie Jacks of Liberty, MO, Rick (Sondra) Brasfield of Edwards, MO, Kris (Rick) Ray and Mark (Amanda) Brasfield of Lee’s Summit, MO. Tom had four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Betty, the mother of his children passed away in 2008.

In addition Tom is survived by Elizabeth’s children, Latisha (Paul) Young and their daughter Courtney (Jordan) Whisenant and Lancer Lane (Brent Kirby).

Intimate close friends considered as family members are Manuel and Dulce Ramos Olvera and their children Manuel Jr. and Madeleine. Also, Carolyn Sedwick and Tim Dale for their unselfish help. Included are a host of friends in Missouri and Texas.
