Catarino Rodriguez

January 19, 1930 — May 4, 2022

Catarino Rodriguez, 92, peacefully passed from this life on May 4, 2022. He was born January 19, 1930 to the late Catarino Rodriguez and Maria Avila Rodriguez in San Antonio, Texas.

Catarino served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He continued his comradery with fellow veterans as a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and AMVETS (American Veterans).

He was a valued employee of Armour-Dial, Inc. until his retirement after many years of faithful service. In his leisure time, Catarino enjoyed traveling, fishing, dancing, bowling, card games, and every family celebration. He also had an enjoyment of spirits with his friends.

Catarino was preceded in death by his loving parents; his brothers, Joe, Robert, and Frankie; his sisters, Sally and Mary; great-granddaughter, Lauren Klespitz; godson, Michael Anthony Garcia; sons-in-law, Valdo Gomez, Mauro Gonzalez, and Ernesto Alvarez, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Demetrio Lucio.

Left to treasure Catarino’s memory is his loving wife, Ramon L. Rodriguez; his children, Antonia Gomez, Rachel Alvarez, Irene Gonzalez, Enrique Torres (Chefi), Beda Hernandez (Noe), Mary Jane Mata (Albert), and Debra Torres (Diana Smart); grandchildren, Beckie Benavides, Mauro Gonzales Jr., Imelda Klespitz, Laura Izaguirre, Ernesto Alvarez III, Denise Clark, Tony Torres, Cynthia Wilson, Noe Hernandez Jr., Julie Thulin, and Albert Mata Jr.; great-grandchildren, Louie Benavides, Stephanie Benavides, Ian Klespitz, Tony Izaguirre, Roy Izaguirre, Enrique Alvarez, Tyler Clark, Justin Clark, Jordon Clark, Heather Szukis, Desiree Stearns, Brooke Wilson, Cody Noland, Brittani Myers, Hunter Hernandez, Jackie Pena, Jessica Thulin, Jackson Thulin, and Allyson Mata.

Catarino is also survived by his sisters, Margret Rodriguez, Loretta Iannoiti, Rachel Moore, and Alma Garten; brother-in-law, Eleno Gonzalez; brother- and sister-in-law, Manuel and Gloria Becerra, and their sons, Joseph and Robert Becerra; sisters-in-law, Irma Gibbs and Maria La Fon; very special close family members, Gilbert and Maria Elena Torres, Lupita Lucio, Anita and Keith McNabb and their children; and his beloved pet, Baby.

The Rodriguez family wishes to thank Catarino’s caregiver, Yolanda and special thanks to Maria Colunga.

Visitation will take place Monday, May 9, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Chapel A of the funeral home. (Click the link below to view a livestream of the Rosary.)

The funeral procession will depart the funeral home at Monday at 2:30 p.m. for a Mass of Resurrection to be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic. Following the Mass, the American Vietnam Veterans, Chapter 1 Honor Guard will render full military honors. Funeral services for Catarino Rodriguez will conclude at the church.

Honored to serve as active pallbearers are Alex Rios, Joseph Becerra, Robert Becerra, Robbie Becerra, Jonathan Becerra, and Anthony Wooten. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Pete Lucio, Gilbert Torres, Albert Mata Sr., Albert Mata, Jr., Ernesto Alvarez III, Manuel Becerra, Kito Torres, Tony Torres, Noe Hernandez, and Louis Benavides.
