Jesus R. Barrera, Sr.

September 13, 1923

Jesús R. Barrera, Sr., beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went Home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2018.  He was born on September 13, 1923 to Exiquio Barrera and Clemencia Rodriguez Barrera in Los Indios, Texas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Lucia P. Barrera; son, Eriberto Barrera; parents, Exiquio and Clemencia Barrera; and siblings, Guadalupe Barrera, Angelita Barrera, Zocorro Barrera, Aulalia Barrera, Celestino Barrera, Margarita Barrera, and Eduvijes Villarreal.

Jesús and Lucia lived in Mexico and then made their home in Aransas Pass, Texas to rear their family. The couple made the Valley their home in 1985 upon their retirement.  They were faithful members of Cross Church of San Benito, Texas.

Left to treasure Jesús’ memory are his children, Concepción (Miguel) Martinez, Dyna Sánchez, Noehmi (Lupe) Martínez, Jesús (Margarita) Barrera, Jr., Ayda (Timoteo) Mendoza, Ezequiel Barrera, Eliazar (Alicia) Barrera, Leticia L. (Julio) Garcia, Edelmiro (Laura) Barrera, Lucia B. (Ted) Trevino-Nier, Eliud (Katherine) Barrera, Exiquio P. (Felicitas) Barrera, and Edwin (Dorothy) Barrera.  Also left to treasure his memory are thirty-five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. The Barrera family will be receiving family and friends on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at San Benito Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:30 PM with Chaplain Hector Perez officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Mont Meta Memorial Park.

The Barrera family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring and compassionate nursing staff of Bee First Primary Home Care & Hospice.
