Jesús Treviño passed away, at the age of 65, on Friday, January 20, 2023 near Harlingen, Texas. He hailed from the La Tina neighborhood outside Rio Hondo, Texas and was a graduate of the Los Fresnos High School Class of 1977.
Jesús traveled the world, leading a rich and full life dedicated to the service of his country, his family, and his friends. He earned the rank of Master Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, retiring in 2002 after 24 years of service. Upon military retirement, Jesús returned to South Texas to become a Cadet Instructor at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, followed by leading the Marine Corps JROTC unit at Pace High School in Brownsville, Texas until his retirement as an educator in 2019.
He was an avid runner and fisherman, but most importantly, a devoted father to his five sons. Full of life lessons and advice (along with many jokes) he worked tirelessly to ensure his sons were prepared to be successful and ready for anything life threw at them.
Jesús is preceded in death by his mother, Lydia J. Treviño, his father, Francisco G. Treviño, his older brother, Jose P. Ortiz, and a beloved nephew, Juan F. Treviño.
Left to carry on his memory are his sons, Michael J. Treviño, Matthew R. Treviño, Mark A. Treviño, Nicholas A. Treviño, and Jesse O. Treviño; his brothers, Juan R. Treviño, Adan Treviño, and Daniel Ortiz; and numerous nieces and nephews from the Treviño and Ortiz families.
He will be greatly missed.
On Saturday, January 28, 2023, the family will begin receiving relatives and friends at 9:00 a.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. At 1:30 p.m., the funeral procession will depart to Mont Meta Memorial Park where Jesús will be laid to rest with full military honors.
