Mario A. Maya, 71, peacefully passed from this life on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 71 years of age. He was born to the late Lorenzo Maya and Ventura Ruiz Maya on February 25, 1951 in San Benito, Texas.
Mario was a proud graduate of San Benito High School, Class of 1969 and served in the Army National Guard for fifteen years. He owned Maya Designs and Graphics/MJ Screenprinting and was a well-known figure in the San Benito community.
In his leisure time, Mario loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed barbecuing for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Ventura R. Maya, and his sister, Julia Sanchez.
Left to treasure Mario’s memory and honor his legacy Is his loving wife, Janie Maya; his children, Mario Maya Jr. (Celina), Jeremy Maya (Elma), Melinda Balleza (Jesse), and Michael Maya (Carla); grandchildren, Jason Maya, Jake Maya, Justin Maya, Erik Maya, Jade Maya, Janelle Mayuyu, Joshua Balleza, Madeline Balleza, Charlotte Maya, and Eloise Maya. He is also survived by his siblings, Lorenzo Maya, Maria Rangel, Lucy Maya Garza, Elizabeth Odle, Mike Maya, and Dora Ambriz.

The Maya family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 7 o’clock on Tuesday evening. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2320 Haine Dr., Harlingen, Texas. Following the service, Mario will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rick Odle Jr., Orlando Ambriz, Efrain Ambriz Jr., Gabriel Ambriz, Juan Sanchez Jr., and Jay Sanchez. Mike Maya will serve as honorary pallbearer.
